Kenneth Slowik Receives GRAMMY Nomination

WHO:
CONDUCTOR KENNETH SLOWIK and the Smithsonian Chamber Players & Santa Fe Pro Musica have received a GRAMMY nomination, it was announced today.

WHAT:
Their recording of Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde for Best Small Ensemble Performance made between October 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007 (Category 105). (Dorian Recordings/Sono Luminus)

WHEN:
Winners will be announced at the 50TH Annual GRAMMY Awards ceremonies in Los Angeles. The event will be broadcast on the CBS Television Network on Sunday February 10, 2008 at 8 PM ET/PT.

Please join us in congratulating CONDUCTOR KENNETH SLOWIK, The Smithsonian Chamber Players & Santa Fe Pro Musica with soloists John Elwes, tenor and Russell Braun, baritone, on receiving a Grammy nomination for their superb and revelatory recording of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde in the chamber orchestra version by Arnold Schönberg (begun in 1921 and completed by Rainer Riehn in 1983). The booklet which comes with the CD contains extensive program notes by Mr. Slowik and includes the texts (in the original German and in English translation) of the poems set by Mahler in this magnificent work, called by the composer "the most personal thing I ever wrote."
